Automatic Writing Journal Entry

I'm starting out this Blog Post without knowing exactly what I want to write, but knowing also that there is plenty to write about. I guess I'll start by saying that I have almost completed illustrating another series of children's books. I've used a different technique than I usually do where I kept the original pencil outlines rather than tracing them digitally. Although I have used this method before, I usually avoid it when I have a series of works to illustrate because having outlines all on one layer & without transparency can be challenging to work on. I've also incorporated several new digital brushes in the colouring which make the illustrations look like they've been watercoloured. Have to say I'm really digging the outcome. I've included two close-ups of these illustrations below.

A few weeks ago I've also managed to squeeze in two more 'This is Verde' drawings. I feel they represent the new Verde. Less colourful, more subtle, pastel with unexpected bouts of colour. Come to think of it, all this pastel might be a sign I'm turning 30 soon, yikes! I've actually sketched loads of Verde's but lately I've become a little fascinated with composition. I've come to understand that a good concept without a good composition is really just a draft, or a scribbled idea. I am indeed spending 70% of my time observing and recording intriguing colour combinations and compositions and about 30% of actual drawing.

All of these sketches and observations won't be going to waste I hope. I'm aiming to bring everything together in around five pieces that I'm aiming to exhibit some time next year. I know exactly what I want to draw but I am obsessing over details before starting the actual drawings / paintings. In the meantime, I'm sketching possible profiles, colour schemes and postures of characters I'd like to draw.

I am also currently helping my husband and two of my friends who will be launching a game based on Maltese Politics next month. I've never done something of this sort and I'm just excited to seeing everything come together. Unfortunately I cannot reveal much else about this project at this time, but if you think you'd be interested in such a game do check out our Facebook Page for updates!
